OVERSEAS FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS:
PARTNER PROGRAMS
The Council of American Overseas Research Centers understand the need for U.S. faculty at higher education institutions to broaden their international understanding and connections and with the wide range of CAORC's member centers, CAORC was happy to partner with the Center of Excellence, housed at Tennessee State University, for this partnership program, "Traditions and Innovations in Agriculture and Forestry".
The COE-LWRM Overseas Faculty Development Seminar program is a multi-country professional development initiative designed to equip faculty from The 1890 Center of Excellence for Land, Water and Resource Management with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge innovations shaping global agricultural systems. Through immersive, site-based seminars, participants will engage with leading researchers, technology developers, and practitioners working across four core thrust areas: Natural Resource Management, Conservation and Forest Health; Precision Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence; Ecosystem Health and Water Quality; and Workforce Training and Development.
Participants will take part in academic briefings, field visits, and direct engagement with industry experts, while also connecting with local universities, institutions, NGOs, and businesses to foster future collaborations in teaching and research. Each seminar will incorporate hands-on cultural experiences that situate technological innovation within local traditions and community practices. By linking faculty with global innovation hubs and facilitating international collaboration, the program aims to strengthen curriculum development, support applied research, and advance U.S. leadership in agricultural innovation and education.

OFDS Partner Program
Customized international seminars developed with partner institutions and consortia to support targeted faculty cohorts and program objectives.
Overseas Faculty Development Seminars (OFDS) are short-term academic programs conducted abroad in partnership with a CAORC member center that combine site-based learning, expert-led discussions, and direct engagement with local institutions and communities. Designed to deepen subject-matter knowledge and global perspective, the seminars provide participants with firsthand exposure to regional dynamics, historical context, and contemporary issues. Through lectures, field visits, and collaborative exchange, participants gain insights and materials that can be integrated into their teaching, research, and professional practice.
The Council of American Overseas Research Centers and its member centers offer a range of Overseas Faculty Development Seminars designed to serve different audiences and institutional needs while maintaining a consistent academic framework. These include fully funded seminars for U.S. college and university faculty and administrators, customized seminars for partner cohorts, open enrollment programs for broader participation, and the Faculty Leadership for International Training and Exchange (FLITE) program. Together, these offerings expand access to the network of American Overseas Research Centers and to international, place-based learning, while ensuring that each seminar remains focused, relevant, and aligned with participant goals.
