The Council of American Overseas Research Centers / Carnegie Corporation of New York Fellowship on the theme of "The Maghrib from the Peripheries: Property, Natural Resources, and Social Actors in North Africa" is now accepting applications. The purpose of this two-year fellowship program is to foster the research of early career social science scholars who are citizens of either Algeria, Libya, Morocco, or Tunisia, who work on one of the following topics:
• Interactions between social actors with different traditions of property rights (e.g. national law,
religious doctrine, and customary practices concerning land and property)
• Natural resources (e.g. water, fisheries, mineral resources) and the local, national, and other multiscalar
claims over their distribution patterns
• Contemporary local and trans-national debates, discussions, and contestations over property and
natural resources
Fellowships are designed to serve scholars who are currently enrolled in a PhD program or who completed
their PhD in the past ten years. This fellowship provides a $2,500 yearly stipend for living and travel expenses incurred during field research. The program includes a series of curated lectures as well as workshops catered to the fellow’s research interests and professional needs.
Applications will be reviewed by a multi-national scientific committee of head researchers, as well as by the directors of the Centre d’Études Maghrébines en Algérie (CEMA) and the Centre
d’Études Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT). Applications will be judged according to the scholarly significance of the research proposal, the feasibility of research design, and the applicant’s research background.

Cette bourse CAORC/Carnegie Foundation d'une durée de deux ans est ouverte aux chercheur.e.s en debut de carrière, provenant de l'Algérie, de la Libye, du Maroc et de la Tunisie.
Ce programme d’une durée de 2 ans a pour objectif de soutenir les chercheurs algériens,
libyens, marocains et tunisiens, spécialisés en sciences sociales (en début de carrière) qui travaillent sur
l’une des thématiques suivantes :
• Interactions entre acteurs sociaux de traditions différentes de droit de propriété (ex : droit
national, doctrines religieuses, et pratiques coutumières concernant la terre et la propriété)
• Ressources naturelles (ex : eau, pêcheries, ressources minérales) et revendications à l’échelle
locale, nationale, et/ou autre concernant leur distribution et exploitation
• Débats, discussions et contestations contemporains autour de la propriété et des ressources
naturelles
