A Series of film
screenings and interactive video-conferences
February 27 through March 1
The West African Research Center, in collaboration with
the Five Colleges African Scholars Program and Universite
Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, is pleased to present a four-day
program of activities around the recently released film
Bamako. This highly acclaimed film by Abderrahmane Sissako,
is a multi-faceted examination of the debt crisis in Africa.
The interactive video conference includes a keynote address
by Nicole Lee, the Director of TransAfrica Forum; introductions
by the film’s producer, Danny Glover; and a panel
of experts based in Dakar, including:

Screenings will take place at Smith College, Westfield
State College, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst,
and Universite Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar. The program
is also part of the Massachusetts Multicultural Film Festival.
