Over two hundred university and senior high school students gathered at the University Cheikh Anta Diop Campus (UCAD II) to listen to Mr. Eugene Adams, Bronx Community College, City University of New York, speak about "Hip Hop and Social Activism."

Professor Aminata Diaw-Cisse, faculty in the Department of Philosophy and Director of Cultural Affairs, University Cheikh Anta Diop, delivered the opening remarks, while Professor Ousmane Sene, Director of theWest African Research Center (WARC), made introductions. Mrs. Stephanie Kane, Director of the Senegalese American Bilingual School, was also in attendance.

After Mr. Adams concluded his presentations, several artists, including the nationally hailed rap artist Pacotille, took to the stage to perform. An informal question and answer session with the audience and the guest lecturer followed the performances.

This afternoon event was a wonderful example of the collaboration and cooperation to be encouraged and stimulated between WARC and University Cheikh Anta Diop.

“ Pacotille” offered his famous hit “Ablaye Banana” and all the audience sang along.
