CAARI Celebrates 30 Years
The beginning of June witnessed a series of events celebrating CAARI’s 30th anniversary. On June 2 departing US Ambassador Ronald Schlicher hosted a small dinner in honor of CAARI at the embassy residence. Wed. June 3, more than 160+ attended a gala dinner in honor of CAARI at the Hilton, hosted by The Cyprus American Business Association. The major sponsor was the Piraeus Bank with substantial support from ESSO, NCR, Price Waterhouse Coopers and the Shacolas Group. The dinner was held under the auspices of the President of Cyprus, and his representative read a warm letter of greeting, commending CAARI for its work in support of Cyprus cultural heritage. Guests included the American Ambassador, the Swedish Ambassador, and many business and cultural leaders. On Thursday June 5, CAARI hosted a dinner in the center's garden for 55 to thank local friends and supporters. On Sunday, June 8 CAARI sponsored a site visit to Pyrga Chapel and the village and sites of Athienou. CAARI would like to thank the Mayor of Athienou for hosting the entire group to a delicious Cypriot lunch. In September, representatives of the CyABA came to CAARI and delivered a donation check in the presence of the new American Ambassador, Frank Urbancic.
