Dr. Tom Davis, the
Director of the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute
(CAARI), recently spoke to a Cypriot Retiree group about the
many contributions American scholars have made to increase
the knowledge and understanding of the rich heritage of Cyprus.
The Director led a tour of the archeological site of the Temple
of Apollo in Kourion, Cyprus. Davis used the opportunity to
highlight 70 years of American research at the site. At the
conclusion of the tour, many in the group expressed a newfound
respect for American contributions to Cypriot archaeology.
This is particularly gratifying, as many of the older generation
were taught a negative view of America’s role in the
world. |
