The board members of the American Institute
for Sri Lankan Studies (AISLS) were key contributors at the
conference on "Religion and Nationalism" sponsored
by the Harvard Divinity School on April 22-23, 2005. The aim
of the conference was to assess what lessons the cases of Bosnia,
Sudan, and Sri Lanka hold for policy-makers seeking to bring
peace and democracy to Iraq. The featured speaker on Sri Lanka
was AISLS board member H.L. Seneviratne, Professor of Anthropology
at the University of Virginia. AISLS board member Anne Blackburn,
Professor of Religion at Cornell University, and AISLS members
Dr. Vijaya Samaraweera and Dr. John Rogers were also invited
participants.
