TALM hosted an
inter-faith study group from the College of Notre Dame (CND).
The delegation was led by CND professor
Sister Eileen Eppig and Imam Mohamed Bashar Arafat, CND adjunct
professor and President of the Civilization Exchange and
Cooperation Foundation. (Imam Arafat served as Imam in Damascus,
Syria
from 1981 to 1989 before coming to the U.S. where he is the
president of the Islamic Affairs Council of Maryland) The
objectives of the two week tour of Morocco were to develop
a deeper understanding
of Islam and the Muslim world and the contributions of Islamic
civilization to the West throughout history.
In January 2007, Sister Eileen Eppig participated in the “Teaching
about Islam and Middle Eastern Culture” seminar
hosted by the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR)
in Amman, Jordan. The three-week seminar was sponsored by the
Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and Council of American
Overseas
Research Centers
(CAORC),
with support from the U.S. Department of State.
