The Tangier American Legation Museum (TALM) hosted Wali Mohamed Hassad on August 30, 2005. The Wali is the most senior representative of the King of Morocco in the Northern Region of country. This is the first time that a Wali has paid a private or personal visit to TALM in over 14 years. TALM showcased to the government representative the museum collection, research library, and social programs such as literacy classes for women residents of the medina. The Wali wrote of his visit in the guest book that “It is with great emotion that I visit a place filled with history, a place symbolizing the opening of Tangier and Morocco to the world and to other civilizations.” At the end of the visit, TALM Director Thor Kuniholm presented Wali Mohamed Hassad with a painting by a graduate of the centers literacy class program.
