American Overseas Research Center holds Two Day Microcredit Workshop
Greta Greathouse, project director for the USAID project, Action for Strengthening Microfinance Associations (ASMA), selected the Tangier American Legation Museum (TALM) to host a two day workshop for participants representing eight Moroccan microcredit organizations. TALM is the Morocco branch of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS). The workshop, the first held in Northern Morocco, focused on microcredit management challenges. Among the microcredit organizations taking part in the workshop was the Microcredit Foundation for the North (MFN), a Rotary Club initiative. One of the MFN loan agents, operating from TALM, has disbursed more than 400 loans to medina women. In April, ASMA Director Greta Greathouse met in Tangier with MFN officers to discuss possibilities for future cooperation. She was able to assist MFN by confirming their status as an approved microcredit organization of Morocco.
