AIIS Senior Fellow
and Professor of the Dennison University in the US, John Cort,
addressed a gathering organized by the four Jain milans in
the area. Cort has been doing studies on Jainism in India examining
its history and the many Indian languages used to describe
the religion. After 25 years, he has found “bhakthi” literature
in languages such as Hindi and Gujarathi. He has covered the “ten
ways of devotion” as well as music used during deity
rituals. The National president of the Bharathiya Jain Milan
in New Delhi, D Surendra Kumar, inaugurated the event where
Cort’s work was recognized. D Surendra Kumar added that
the Jainism community should reflect on their role in society
and work with other communities as a whole. This strategy will
make their political presence and support much stronger. |
