Albright Institute Helps to Develop Archaeological Libraries at Several Palestinian Institutions
In January 2006, the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research’s (AIAR) Director, Sy Gitin, in cooperation with the American Institute of Archaeology, arranged for more than 300 back issues of the American Journal of Archaeology (AJA) to be sent to the archaeological libraries of three Palestinian institutions: Al-Quds University and the Palestinian Department of Antiquities in Gaza and Ramallah. This is part of the Albright’s long-term project to help develop and encourage the growth of archaeological libraries in the West Bank and Gaza. In the past, AIAR has arranged a grant of $25,000 for the purchase of 600 books which formed the basis of the first archaeological library at Al-Quds University. AIAR has also instituted a long-term program in which books are solicited from institutions and individuals in the United States for the archaeological library of the Palestinian Department of Antiquities in Gaza.
