Albright’s International Seminar Attracts American, European, Israeli, and Palestinian Scholars
The W.F. Albright Institute of Archeological Research (AIAR) in Jerusalem held a one-day international seminar entitled The Archaeology of the Ottoman and Mandate Periods on June 5, 2005. The main focus of the seminar was to demonstrate how archeological research can shed light on the Ottoman and Mandate periods in Palestine and Transjordan. The seminar was host to many presentations conducted by scholars from Palestine, Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The event attracted archaeologists from various local universities, Albright Fellows, and many Palestinian, Israeli, American, and European scholars. The seminar’s goal was to “demonstrate to our colleagues that archaeological materials from 1700 to 1918 are worthy of legal protection.” This seminar is the second in a series, with the first being held last year entitled On the Fringe of Society.
