ACOR Celebrates 40 Years

Some 300 people gathered to celebrate ACOR's 40 yeas in Jordan on the evening of 12 June. The party was hosted by HRH Prince Raad bin Zeid, (First Vice President) Mr. Artemis Joukowsky (President ACOR Board of Trustees) and Dr. Barbara Porter (ACOR Director) who organized the event. Attendees were colleagues from the Department of Antiquities, including the Director General Dr. Fawwaz Al Khraysheh, Jordanian universities and museums as well as many old friends of ACOR, members of the diplomatic community, ACOR fellows, and several excavation team members.

Prince Raad and Arte Joukowsky gave speeches which considered various aspects of ACOR's past, present and future. It was noted that three of the former directors were present (see photo). Barbara Porter honored the current staff at ACOR who collectively represent many years. The one particularly singled out was Mohammed Adawi who has been the chef at ACOR since its inception in 1968. For that one day, he did not have to lift a finger except to cut the cake!
