The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) in Amman hosted
a training program for Iraqi Librarians July 3-28, 2005, in association
with Simmons College and Harvard University. The goal of the
program, Current Trends in Library and Information Science,
was to help modernize Iraqi libraries by training librarians
in the latest trends in library and information science. The
eight member teaching team, from the United States and United
Kingdom, facilitated training courses on modern library techniques.
The program was directed by Michele Cloonan, Dean of the Simmons
College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. The
40 Iraqi participants were librarians from al-Mustansiriyah University,
al-Mossul University, al-Basra University, the Technical Institute
for the Foundation of Education, and the National Library and
Archives. The program was funded by a grant from the National
Endowment for the Humanities. |
