Jordanian Cultural Heritage Management Students Participate in American Excavation at Beidha
The American Center for Oriental Research's third season of excavation and documentation at the al-Amti Canyon in Beidha (Little Petra) was conducted from September 18 to October 7, 2004. There were three major objectives of the work: to continue documentation of the Beidha area, to provide employment, and to improve tourist facilities in the Petra area. In addition, with the assistance this season of a small ECA grant through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC), two Jordanian Cultural Heritage Management students with no prior experience were able to participate in fieldwork, excavation recording, conservation, and other aspects of economic tourism. The project, which hired 54 local workers this season, was directed by Dr. Patricia Bikai, Associate Director of ACOR.
